Complete and notarize Oocyte Donation Program consent, notarization, IVF
consent, Kinship Form and regarding documents.
III.
Recommended Examinations as below.
For wife:
- Hormone blood testing:
TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) &PRL (prolactin): If these two
hormones exceed standard value, they will affect pregnancy rates and fetal
development in gestation. You need to take medicines to control the level by
the docotor's order.
- Hysterosalpingography (HSG): Inject
small amount of contrast medium into your uterus and it will flow through your
fallopian tube. Then use X-ray to check whether tubes are blocked or not and
the whole uterus size.
- Hysteroscopy: Directly
observe the inside of the uterus and check if there are any polyps and
fibroids.
- Auto-immune response: Blood tests. An abnormal autoimmune function may cause miscarriage.

4/23/2020 09:33:00 PMSperm Donation Program
Process of Sperm Donation Program
Q&A about sperm donor
program
What kind
of health assessments we do for
sperm donors?
- Assessments include the following: Counseling for hereditary diseases and hereditary psychiatric disorders; Blood testing, including tests for infectious diseases such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis, gonorrhea and AIDS; Tests for genetic diseases such as thalassemia (complete blood count, CBC) and spinal muscular atrophy (genetic testing), karyotype testing and toxicology screening (urinanalysis).
- There are still risk for other diseases that are not included in the donor assessment or cannot be anticipated by the Center.
Is it OK to use freeze sperm in sperm donor program?
Embryologists freeze the donor
sperm using a special media then keep sperm in liquid nitrogen at minus 196C,
and it can be stored for more than ten years while maintaining a reasonable
quality. And the post-thaw survival rate is around 30-50%.
How many times can I use the donor sperm?
Varies from treatment.
IVF treatment- Generally 3-4 times. Use intracytoplasmic sperm injection(ICSI) to choose good sperm for insemination.
IUI treatment- Generally 1-2 times. Need to raise the success rate by plenty amount of
sperm. Thawing more tubes of sperm can add the number that can use for the
treatment.
Can I see photos of sperm donors?
In accordance with the regulations of the Artificial Reproduction Act, the
Center can only provide information concerning the donor's skin color, blood
type and race for reference. All other data shall be kept confidential. And recipients
information are also confidential to donors. Therefore, you're not able to know
each other.
Can I use designated donor?
In accordance with the
regulations of the Artificial Reproduction Act, the Center can't use
designated donor by recipients' request. And the donor can't designate
the recipients either. Therefore, you can't not bring your friend or family as donor.
Is there any chance that my child will get married with donor's offspring?
There is very little chance. But if you're worried about it, Ministry of Health and Welfare has Regulations for Inquiring Kinship Information of Concern to the Children Born Through Assisted Reproduction. They can check if there are kinship between them. But they won't disclose donor's information.PGS (Preimplantation Genetic Screening)
4/23/2020 12:39:00 AM
PGS (Preimplantation Genetic Screening) is an examination
for testing if there are any chromosomal abnormalities of the embryo prior to
transferring. Utilizing the most advanced Next Generation Sequencing(NGS)
technique, PGS are used to detect if there is any extra or missing copies of 23
pairs of chromosomes, deletion of large-DNA segment (≧10
Mb) and unbalanced translocation. The process of PGS will first start from
performing the biopsies of each embryo. These biopsies would be undergone whole
genomic amplification. The library of the embryos would be created by
bio-molecular approaches and sequenced. The data would be interpreted by an
internal software, which illustrate if there is any chromosome abnormality
comparing with normal 46 chromosomes. Better than traditional array comparative
genomic hybridization (aCGH) platform, PGS acquire advantages including
rapidity, high level accuracy and high level sensitivity.
Having a healthy baby is the expectation of every parent.
PGS allows us to examine chromosomes of the embryo and to select a normal
embryo before transfer. Which not only increase the implantation rate and
pregnancy rate but also reduce the probability of early miscarriage.
Who
should consider doing PGS?
- Female who is over the age of 35 years old.
- Female who has experienced miscarriages for more than 2 times.
- Multiple unsuccessful IVF treatments.
- Inherited chromosomal abnormalities or chromosomal translocation.
- Severe male infertility.
The
process of PGS
- Evaluation and consultation.
- Signing the PGS consents after the limitation and risk of PGS are
fully explained.
- Start entering the IVF treatment. The operation of oocytes retrieval
would be at around day 12-14 of the period.
- Embryologists will fertilize the oocytes on the date of oocytes
retrieval.
- After in-vitro culture for at least 5-7 days, the blastocysts will be
graded and undergone biopsy.
- The biopsies would be sent to examination (which will take around
7-10 working days).
- Selecting the euploid embryos to transfer.
What
disease could be examined by PGS?
Aneuploidy: Down syndrome, Turnur
syndrome, Klinefelter's syndrome, Edwards syndrome, Patau syndrome, etc.
Large deletion (≧10 Mb): Prader-Willi syndrome, Cri-du-chat syndrome, DiGeorge syndrome, Angelman syndrome, etc.
Large deletion (≧10 Mb): Prader-Willi syndrome, Cri-du-chat syndrome, DiGeorge syndrome, Angelman syndrome, etc.
Limitation
Although this test has a high level of
accuracy, limitations are still present in current science and technology. PGS cannot
be used to examine single gene mutation disease (ex. Thalassemia, Muscular
dystrophy, Hemophilia), short DNA deletion, balanced translocation
and polyploid. Therefore, high-level prenatal checks should still be done
during pregnancy. Amniocentesis is recommended between 16 to 20 weeks of
pregnancy.
